I really like how you can see all the fine feathers on this one, and yet they also come together to create a smooth and shiny surface. The neutral-colored background really brings out all the bold colors on this bird, too.

WOW. Not a lot of people capture iridescence so well, and not a lot of photographers think to pay mind to a grackle!

Lovely shot, and I'll probably use this as an iridescence reference in the future. XD

It is a grackle, and yes. :la: I don't see why people think of them as pests. They are very beautiful.

I agree! I'm biased towards anything that sparkles with iridescence XD, but they're relatively quiet. Starlings are sooo chatty. Sparrows never shut up when they're together. And blue jays... Well, their "ANNGK ANNGK" cry gets on my nerves. (And I hate to say it, because I love corvids so much, and I like the sounds of crows and grackles... but bluejays are the exception to the rule, I guess...)

very interesting- I just wish there were birds with iridescent feathers where I live. I don't really think there are, though.
